Bungalow West

Bungalow West

the Story

This craftsman home had a growing family. They needed more space, but loved where they lived. We figured it was best to add a second story addition. The great thing about second story additions is that you can make it look modern or traditional, because you have an opportunity to completely transform the roof line. The clients wanted to keep the craftsman look, which we thought was perfect for the area. The challenge always is finding where the massive new code compliant stairs will go, haha. We found a way to keep the existing kitchen in place and add the stairs to the front of the house. We made the second floor look like a large dormer to keep the craftsman look, while making it feel like a smaller home. This left us a little extra space at the landing on the stairs and we created a dog bed. Their dog loves hanging out there. Also I really like how we mitered the siding at the corners, instead of using corner boards.
