Modern Split

the Story
These clients approached us asking for more curb appeal. They wanted to have their split-level home look more modern and updated. The first thing we did was to switch out the garage doors to aluminum and frosted glass. We added a concrete wall with large address numbers. Finally, we added clear cedar siding in strategic locations around the front and corners. In the back of the house, they wanted a deck to hang out on and improved access to the backyard. The challenge was the deck was a full story up from the outside grade at the back of the house, so how do we make it look broken up and not so massive. We ended up putting in a landing about 1/3 the way up and included a hot tub. We wrapped the structure of the deck in cedar boards to make it feel more like a fence. I really like how we added simple things to this home and completely updated it for a small budget.
